HELP, I asked 3 times and no one had an answer!?

i installed windows xp home and am trying to upgrade to vista. everything in the vista ultimate upgrade installs fine but when my computer reboots it says that windows fails because of winload.exe missing in system 32? i dont get this error with xp. these are both legal and legitimate copies but the upgrade disk is downloaded from the windows store. what is this error and how can i fix it? why would something be missing on a clean and legal install of windows? I cant fix the vista because it wont load at all after install but xp has no problems. what can i do? i like vista, so i dont want any of those opinions please. the progrm i used checked the iso file, what program could i use to make sure the windows files are complete? ive tried downloading an iso from the internet and using that as my install but that brings up the same error!

Answer:
Try the following: Go to: http://coblitz.codeen.org/neosmart.net/downloads/guides/Vista_Repair/Vista_Recovery_Disc_x86.iso and download the iso. Burn it to cd and then boot it. Select your language and at the bottom right clicked the Repair option. Windows does a quick scan then should come back and say it found an issue with your startup file and asked if you want to repair and reboot. Choose ok.
