Improving Performance of Windows Vista: Free Tips Inside

Is your Windows Vista running too slow? Don’t panic. This doesn’t mean that your system has a virus installed in it. If you’ve been careful, chances are you only need to perform a few simple steps to improve the performance of your Windows Vista.

Disk Space

Before trying to tweak Vista itself, you might first want to start off by freeing disk space in your hard drive. Remove programs that you don’t really need and you’ll find yourself having a better Vista performance. You may also want to try the Disk Cleanup option by right-clicking a hard drive, going to Properties and choosing the Disk Cleanup button. What this does is it calculates the amount of free space you can have by allowing you to delete unnecessary file such as Temporary Internet Files.

GUI

Next up, you may also change the GUI of the Vista to slash down its slow processes. Basically, one of the reasons why Vista is so attractive is because of its high-quality GUI (Graphical User Interface) in comparison with the other Windows versions. However, this is also the reason why Vista runs slower than most because it takes longer time for the computer to load all the required settings. So if you value performance more than the GUI, you can change this by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing “Personalize and clicking the “Window Color and Appearance.”  This will lead you to the system’s transparency feature wherein you can choose whether you want it disabled or not.

Defragment

Another
good choice is defragmenting. What this does is it rearranges your files in a more systematic manner that would allow your PC to easily
access the file within seconds that you give the command. A system with poorly
arranged data usually slows down because it takes the PC longer time to locate the
file you are looking for. You can do this by right-clicking the hard drive of your
choice, clicking Properties, Tools and the Defragment Now button. Be
patient since this process will take a few hours. If you
have two or more hard drives, then you can just do the same for them.

Tweaks and Utilities

There are also softwares specifically designed to help improve the performance of
Windows Vista. One of these includes the MZ Vista Force that basically cleans up junk files and allows you to modify different settings to improve the system. However, note that downloading from the internet always poses risks to your PC, stressing the need for an updated antivirus. Make sure that you always perform a virus scan when downloading any type of program or when using a pen drive.
